Perth is a young city with a vibrant personality. Located in the remote landscape of Western Australia, it is the perfect destination for a unique family holiday on the other side of the world.

Lying on Australia’s Western coastline, Perth is the perfect destination for a family holiday. This is a modern city with access to a number of the world’s most stunning beaches; Cottesloe, Scarborough and Perth City Beach all minutes from its centre.

This city is home to the surfers who flock here from around the world for some of the best surfing possible. Its location means that it is somewhat isolated from the rest of Australia, with lengthy drives to the other main cities, but this remoteness has the advantage of giving the city plenty of access to outdoor activities and sports.

Perth is famous throughout the world for being popular with young adults, so families with older children will find this the perfect location for a family holiday. There are plenty of clubs for teenagers to enjoy, and with most local teenagers spending every day on the beach, you won’t be able to see your kids for the sand.

Whilst Perth is a lengthy journey from the UK, holiday makers will love the modern feel of this city. It’s easy to feel right at home here, and while much of that is down to the friendliness of the local people, it is also partly due to the similarities between the two cultures.

The climate in Perth is warm most of the year round, but there are still a few months when weather can be wetter. Because Australia is in the Southern Hemisphere, the winter months are between June to October, and the summer months run over Christmas time. You should be aware that December is a very busy month for tourists, so unless you’re desperate to have your Christmas turkey cooked on a BBQ, it’s probably one month to avoid.

Things to do in Perth with Children

4WD Pinnacles Tour is a great way to see parts of the outlying countryside that you wouldn’t normally see. This tour will take you through the Yanchep National Park and past some interesting natural rock formations. You’ll head over the sand for a spot of sandboarding, before enjoying a BBQ lunch and a chance to gather your breath. Then it’s back on the 4WD tour bus and off through more areas of natural beauty before being dropped at your hotel. There is an age limit of 4 years old for this adventure.

The chance to Swim with Dolphins is an adventure that every family should try to enjoy at least once. Head over to Rockingham Bay where you’ll spend time with these amazing creatures in either a swimming session or a feeding and play session depending upon the age of your children. They’ll need to be at least three years old for the play session alone.

The Valley of the Giants Treetop Walk is a unique suspended walkway through the trees in Karri Forest. You’ll enjoy the chance to climb to a wooden watch hut at the top of a 51 metre tree, before traversing the remaining treetops to get a bird’s eye view of the surrounding area. The tour includes the chance to stop for tea and souvenir shopping. Children of 3 years are welcome.
