Dublin’s Fair City is a lively venue for a family holiday, with plenty of choice and attractions available to keep the whole family entertained.

Dublin is one of Ireland’s oldest cities, and it enjoys the title of the capital city of Ireland. Often described as a ‘Fair City’, it sits on the River Liffey, which is an Irish name meaning ‘Life’. The city is renowned for its party atmosphere, and although parents may feel apprehensive about the thought of taking young children into a lively city at night, they will actually be well catered for, with many restaurants keeping space for children to eat well into the evening.

The city is an architectural wonder, with a plethora of ancient monuments and statues to admire. Its buildings, particularly at its heart, are old and often intricate, but yet the city has a clean, well-kept feel. Dublin is divided into ‘districts’, with one of the most famous being the Temple Bar District, an area well known for its pubs and clubs. Just west of the city centre lies Phoenix Park, one of the largest urban parklands ever created at 712 acres.

Dublin is well known for its many festivals, and it’s a delightful place to spend a family holiday when the city is in full swing celebrating its cultural diversity. From its many literary or music festivals, from jazz to contemporary, right through to its unique celebration of the local produce at the annual Dublin Bay Prawn Festival, there will be something on throughout the year to capture everyone’s attention.

When to visit Dublin with kids?

Being in the south of the island, and enjoying a little of the warmth brought by the Gulf Stream, Dublin’s weather can be a little more favourable than most parts of the UK, but nevertheless, the best time to visit is still during the warmer summer months when the climate gives more drier days than the rest of the year.
