The Greek island of Corfu is the second largest to be located in the Ionian Sea. Often referred to as the ‘emerald isle’ because of its abundance of olive trees and lush green landscape, Corfu is a beautiful family holiday destination.
Corfu’s history is filled with tales of battles and conquests, the legacy of which is visible in the way of beautiful castles dotted around the island in various different locations. Two such castles stand guard over the Old Town of Corfu.
Early June is the most comfortable time to stay on this Greek Island. With temperatures reaching the mid 20°’s it is a pleasant time to visit. The latter summer months can get very hot, reaching temperatures of 35° plus, so it would be worth booking an air conditioned room for the children if you are planning to stay then.
Corfu has a variety of family friendly holiday resorts to choose from, including Roda in the north. This is a quieter choice for families looking to relax. Days can be spent lazing on the beautiful beach here and taking walks amongst the mainly flat landscape that Roda has to offer.

Corfu Town is slightly livelier but families can enjoy the day time exploring the history of this ancient town. Walking through Corfu Town’s old quarter you’ll be able to take the kids on an adventure to see its Venetian buildings and famous old forts.

Another family favourite resort in Corfu is Sidari. Popular for its shallow water, which quickly turns bath like warm, this is the perfect location for children to swim in, and mum to sunbath in. Its calm sea is also great for water sports, always a family favourite activity. Beyond the western end of this fantastic beach, families will find a series of beautiful tiny coves to explore and snorkel in. The main street in Sidari is full of friendly shops, restaurants and taverns.
