The Spanish Island of Lanzarote, part of the Canary Islands, is situated in the Atlantic Ocean. This stunning island enjoys a dry climate with sunshine throughout the year. Temperatures top a comfortable 21°C in the winter months and rise to a hot 29°C in August, making Lanzarote an all-year round family holiday destination.
Famous for its beaches, Lanzarote offers families some of the most stunning coastline out of all the Canary Islands. The Island is also occupied by volcanos, creating a unique landscape of strange rock formations, solidified lava streams and theatrical peaks. The children will love the adventure that this island has to offer.
Three family friendly resorts situated in Lanzarote include Puerto del Carmen, Costa Teguise and Playa Blanca.
Puerto del Carmen is the most lively of the three and is therefore more suited to families with older children. By day families can enjoy a relaxed holiday on a golden beach stretching a nearly unbroken 6km. By night families can unwind in the many bars and restaurants Puerto del Carmen has to offer. By contrast, just a short distance from the main strip, the beautiful harbour in the Old Town can provide a glamorous afternoon shopping at some of its designer boutiques, well… mum should get one afternoon to herself!
Costa Teguise is the place to go if you have any budding surfers in your family. Its beaches are great for water sports and attract many wind and board surfers to its shores. With three stunning soft sandy beaches to choose from families are spoiled for choice here. Quieter and more subdued than Puerto del Carmen, Costa Teguise is perfect for families looking for a quiet, relaxing, beach holiday.
Another relaxed, tranquil and child friendly area of Lanzarote is Playa Blanca. Offering more indulgent sandy beaches, families can enjoy meals in the many waterside bars and restaurants that Playa Blanca has to offer. Families can even enjoy a day trip to Fuerteventura with ferries leaving from this resort daily.
