You really can’t go wrong with a Costa del Sol holiday. The Costa del Sol is still one of the most popular holiday destinations for a family holiday. You can usually get fairly reasonable flights to Malaga on low cost carriers.

Malaga, the Capital of the Costa del Sol is one of the oldest cities in the world, and home to Pablo Picassos birth place, the Museo Picasso Malaga and the Moorish Alcazaba Fortress. Most people bypass Malaga, but it’s worth taking the opportunity to visit this interesting Historical City.

The Costa del Sol stretches along a narrow strip of coastline, where you will find the most popular Family holiday resorts in Spain. Just 7 Kilometres from Malaga Airport, is Torremolinos. Torremolinos may conjure up images of kiss-me-quick hats and Full English breakfasts, but it has over the last few years become a smart and attractive resort with a sparkling, vibrant nightlife.
Benalmadena, is next, and boasts one of the best promenades on the Costa del Sol. The Puerto Marina is quite stunning, and draws everyone from Torremolinos and Benalmadena for its choice of restaurants and fun nightlife.

Most head further along the coast to popular resort of Fuengirola. Once a tiny fishing village, this town is now a bustling metropolis, with high rise hotels lining the beautiful 5 km of wide sandy beach front. Fuengirola still retains its charm, and you can still see the fishermen out early in the morning, catching your evening dinner! If you and the kids aren’t too keen on fish, there is no shortage of restaurants to suit all tastes and budgets. Fish lovers should head to “Fish Alley” just behind the Hotel el Puerto for its quality seafood restaurants. Fuengirola and Benalmadena have an fantastic array of entertainment for all the family, to include a water park, theme park, zoo and marine attractions.

Marbella is in the heart of the Costa del Sol and is easily accessible by both Malaga and Gibraltar airport. This exclusive resort is reknown for being the holiday residence and playground for celebrities, princes, and millionaires. In Marbella, the moto is “ A way of life” and that’s exactly what you get here. The old part of Marbella Town has a beautiful charm and atmosphere about it, and a wonderful place to wander around, stopping to take in the sweet aroma of jasmine and orange blossom scent in the Plaza de los Naranjos (Orange Square). Dotted along the beach front, amongst the chiringuitos (beach restaurants) are play areas to amuse the young ones.

Puerto Banus is Marbellas playground for rich and famous, and you will no doubt see a “C -class” celeb in town. The picturesque Marina with multi-million yachts moored up, Lambourgines and Ferraris cruising by is Spains’ answer to St Tropez. In Puerto Banus, you will find no end of designer boutiques, first class restaurants and a nightlife that holds a world-class reputation!

If you are looking for a quiet family resort with some Spanish charm, then Estepona, Costa Del Sols most Westerly resort could be for you. Here you will find quaint cobbled streets, cheap little local shops, traditional tapas bars, especially around Plaza Las Flores. The promenade has three well equipped play areas for children of various ages, whist the El Cristo Beach, just west of the Marina is perfect for families, as the beach gently slopes into the sea so even toddlers and babies get to paddle too. Older ones can enjoy the rock pools surrounding the bay. There are also two fabulous beach chiringuitos that serve typical Spanish foods.

The Costa del Sol is a wonderful destination for a Summer Family Holiday giving you as much, or as a little as you want, coupled with the subtropical climate, exotically hot, yet mild and breezy. There is also something quite special about the Costa del Sol during the Winter months, when you can enjoy the real Spain and the weather, being one of the warmest in Europe.
