Located at the very tip of England’s south-western coastline, Cornwall is a popular holiday county attracting thousands of holiday-makers around the year. It’s where you’re most likely to get some of the best weather in the UK, thanks to the warm air brought in on the Gulf Stream from the Caribbean, so its beaches and parks are crowded on summer’s days. It has a long and interesting history featuring warring Romans and battle-scarred Saxons, and there are a significant number of historical sites of interest that make holidaying here an educational experience.
It’s also the perfect location for outdoor lovers, with plenty of activities to try on land, sea or in the air. Take a stroll along the South West Coast Path which takes in cliffside walks along the Channel to the south and the Celtic Sea to the west, or visit the fascinating Eden Project, with its ground-breaking bio domes located at St Austell. The only city in Cornwall is Truro, home to Georgian architecture, a 13th Century cathedral and a plethora of museums and galleries. It’s also a fantastic place to visit for families, with great dining options, kid friendly attractions and boat trips on the Fal Estuary.
Cornwall is famous for its beautiful beaches, rocky cliffs and mild climate. Great Western beach at Newquay is great for families, whether the kids are small enough to play with sand castles or big enough to hop on a surf board. National parklands like Bodmin Moor are protected as sites of importance, and visitors can wander in peace through its quiet country landscape or take a trip aboard the Bodmin and Wenford Steam Railway to get a view of the rolling fields and hills from a different angle. Whatever you’re looking for in a family holiday, a visit to Cornwall is the ideal location.
