Family holiday and travel with children to South America

brasil-water-falls.jpg

South America is a uniquely exotic location that offers a diverse collection of experiences for every holiday maker. Family holidays to this stunning continent are truly exceptional.

South America is a unique combination of countries spread over the fourth largest continent in the World. Here, visitors can find a unique collection of sights that attract tourists year after year, and while South America may not be as traditional a destination for family holidays as the states of its Northern cousin, it is becoming increasingly more popular as tourists begin to recognize the attraction of this fantastic location. With its vast expanse of territory and unique collection of cultures and history, the opportunities for family holidays here are endless.

The weather, and the temperature, in Southern America depends very much on the country you’re visiting, but because it is south of the equator, you can expect their seasons to be entirely opposite to those in the north – summer can arrive in December whereas winter is prevalent in July.

Brazil is a country of colourful contrasts. Located in the northeast of the continent, Brazil is famous for its wide expanse of natural rainforests, its lively carnivals and its awe inspiring beaches. Its capital city, Brasilia, is a modern urban sprawl that hosts cultural and sporting events which attract visitors from around the world. In Rio de Janeiro, travelers can take a trip to the Tijuca National Park, visit the historic sites of the Statue of Christ or spend the afternoon on the Copacabana Beach. Kids will love a visit to the Iguacu Falls or a trip to the Gruta Do Lago Azul caves.

Chile is a unique tract of land that is remarkably long and narrow – in fact, it is the world’s longest country. Taking up much of South America’s western coastline, this unique country offers plenty of interesting sites for tourists who are travelling with their kids. Take a journey to the Napa Rui National Park (otherwise known as Easter Island) where the ruins of temples to the Tiki Gods are ready for exploration, or head to Patagonia where trekking into the imposing granite mountains is a must for adventurers of every age.

Lying at the south east coast of South America is the country of Argentina, a fantastic and unique destination for holiday makers. This is a country that has such an eclectic and diverse culture that the opportunities for families on holiday here are endless. From relaxing on warm beaches in the north of the country, or spending the day chilling out on a ranch, tourists can head south and enjoy the spectacle of watching native penguins at play on the southern glaciers.

Peru is home to the Amazon, a wonderful natural habitat that was, until fairly recently, inhabited by indigenous tribes that favoured cannibalism. These days, the only threat is from the wildlife, but visitors can enjoy the natural wilderness by visiting one of the state parks or by joining in on a safari into the outlying areas. The Tambopata Candamo Reserve is a 4 million acre tract of land devoted to the conservation of the natural habitat, and kids can enjoy learning about the 10 thousand different species here, or take the opportunity to join in with some biology workshops.
